My first attempt at stringing together a few bits of video from my phone, of the girls out in the snow this morning. We don't get much snow in these parts, so you have to make the most of it when it does arrive!

What an amazing garden! Lovely watching the chooks exploring, although was a bit worried when they ventured onto your pond! :D

What a nice little video, Jack Cardiff eat your heart out. It must be a very good phone you've got for that picture quality. They are certainly braver than my lot who just take one look at snow and think nah don't think we'll bother. Particularly liked Marigold the buff sussex, beautiful hen.

It's an i-Phone 4S with high definition camera - a present from my daughter. I'm just getting to grips with it, having previously only had an oldfashioned one that just did phone calls in emergencies (though if an emergency did arise the battery was usually flat from disuse.) The camera is very handy, but it does need a zoom. Maybe the next generation will have that (even if I don't!) It's been good to take some pics of the quail hatching (see Quail section below.)
I told Marigold you thought she looked beautiful and she preened herself and said 'Somebody appreciates me, even if you lot don't!'

What a lovely garden - and your chicken run - well - I think if my birds saw that they would want to pack their bags and come on over! Thank you for sharing - a delightful video and very enjoyable. Marigold is really lovely - beautiful chooks!

Mine would want to move in too  Marigold is a lovely girl :)

I'm just amazed a video of such high quality can be taken from a mobile phone. Lovely garden Marigold; are they are allowed to rummage round in it all year?

Well, this was a point of marital disharmony up to last Autumn. We had spent the previous 15 years or so building the miniature garden railway, not very visible under the snow, but runs round the edge of the pond and everywhere else as well. I am expert at mixing concrete for trackbeds, (my cakes turn out much the same consistency.) Once a month in summer, we held steam-up days where all the other 'boys' brought along their little steam trains and enjoyed balmy afternoons playing with them. Sometimes we went to their railways as well, took up quite a lot of weekends. During this phase, chickens on the line were definitely NOT encouraged as they scratch gravel and poop on the sacred trackbed. A bonus of this however was the help Tony gave me in constructing that nice big foxproof run you can see in the video, and they are OK in there when circumstances require it. In any case I only let them out for a couple of hours midday in winter as the garden boundaries are not foxproof, and there is open country beyond, although no problems so far, fingers crossed. However, last summer Tony returned to his earlier passion, ie flying RC model aircraft, takes himself off to a flying club nearby with a new set of 'boys toys' and seems ATM not to have noticed any 'help' the hens have provided in the garden. Mind you, it's not so bad in winter when the garden isn't really at its best anyway. Don't know what's going to happen in the Spring - i shall have to go round with a dustpan and brush and clean up after them a bit more, I suppose.
