I forgot to introduce myself :)

I'm Minxy I have 1 duck called Daffy  she was given to us off a friend as she needed someone to look after her while she was away, in the end she couldn't take her back as she seemed so happy here :)

anyway a few years later and she is a bit of a rudie , we get wild mallards come to our pond every spring and she started playing with them in the rude way  but they didnt look like they played with her proper, she is a very broody duck so we felt mean her sat on her eggs for so long with no result sooooooooooo when she sat on her eggs for ages I realised I could buy fertile eggs  so I thought what a great way for her 2 have babies so I bought 4 :) when they arrived in post we went to Daffy to let her out 2 wet belly (and swap eggs :-)10 ) and we opened the hatch to find these little duckies

so I'm stood like a muppet with 4 eggs in hand wondering what 2 do :-)19 so I started looking for incubator with no luck but my friend said her hen is broody so I give them her (didn't think these eggs would work due 2 them coming from so far away in post but hey ho)

5th I get phone call 'hurry up 2 farm we have ducklings' all 4 hatched

so thats me and the ducks :) I also have 2 goats called Barry and Eric :) and a hedgehog called Trevor :D

well Daffy had 5 but 1 had died later that day I think Daffy stood on the lil fella but the other 4 were a success and they are nearly fully grown, then I have my 4 alyesbury ducklings (if they are what they were sold as) who are 3 days old and I also have 10 in incubator which are all mixed ducks :) hope they turn out well as my 4 ducklings were under a broody hen

I have a male mallard and a female khaki campbell and I really keep thinking about letting her sit on her eggs, but have nowhere to keep ducklings...not that it matters atm, she hasn't started laying yet, think she is 9/10 weeks old atm, how old when they start laying?

Beautiful ducklings! One of my muscovy ducks hatched 4 earlier this year, now they are all flying! :D

That is so lovely, and your duck and ducklings are all absolutely GORGEOUS!!! :)

Those lovely pics make me want some duckies even more! We have space for them .a stream and a pondy /boggy area (the wild mallard like it). BUT -----the foxes also live there sadly! I have to keep the chooks right by the house , I just can't keep ducks even though in all other ways I have a lovely spot for them.

It's always a great sight to see when a born duckling is sat with its mother when you go open the duck house first thing in the morning. :-)17
