Hello there, i have a polish hen and a silkie hen, they have always loved having a mooch in the house but now they have moved in and won't go back out :-)07

They have been out for 20 mins this morning before wanting to come back in, i have a question though....once they are in for the night they perch on the back of the couch and spend hours pruning, i have noticed they seem to have very dry skin like dandruff it's not soemthing i'd of noticed outside but it's a pain and is it normal?

I feel guilty putting them outside but i can't cope with the amount of dandruff they produce, during the day it isn't to bad as they mooch around but come roosting time it's a nightmare,

Hi - you think you have problems!!!!! look at this - my lot preen themselves in the mirror and think that before a show they get to sleep in my bed!!!

The result of their night was worth it though

on a more serious note - I can't let them all in - there are more than 200 of them, but the show birds as they are washed in the house, often pop in and have a wanter around and perch on the sofa, and no don't feel bad about putting them back out again, a hen lives outside and it's quite normal, but there is no harm in them spending a bit of time watching tele with you, as for the dandruff, it's quite normal, just in a hen house you don't see it, its just a part of the quill which sheds all the time - can't remember the name - but your hens are very normal :D :D

I love your pics Dorinda, especially the ones of the Favorelle, they look so cuddly. I keep changing my mind but I am seriously thinking of hatching some bantam favs this year. I think they would fit in nicely with my Pekins and after seeing Foxys site I was really smitten.
My birds show no sign of wanting to come in my house, they love free ranging in the garden most of the day. :)

Ha Ha i think it's cute i once foud an ex battery house asleep behind the toilet, didn't know until i turned the light on and she made a chunnering noise.

I feel guilty putting them outside, they have got the sense to go to the door when they want to go out but i have four dogs so the door is always open and shut and everytime ito opens in they run.

I think the funniest thing is i have a parrot and two days ago he started clucking like a chicken laying an egg, i can barely hear the TV with him as it is but when he spends all night clucking it's like being in a mad house :D

WEll i'm glad it's normal but not pleased i have to put up with it, also my polish has a very red head, some of her feathers fell out after the battery hens suddenly decided one day they didn't like her, it meanti had to rehome the batteries :( it's never grown back though and she looks mega scruffy i've noticed chick the silkie also pecks her too :(

200 hens WOW

Ha ,ha -------and I thought I was potty letting Boris wander into the kitchen when the back door is open!!Ros

we've only had poorly hens or chicks in the house ....
...but, we milked our old goat in the kitchen and she used to love to visit "Grandad" in his room (and frighten the dog!!)

I thought it was just Lydia that was bonkers letting her chickens into the house to sleep at night time!

Oh lovely photos Dorinda, specially like that faverolles girl! :D

I remember frantically searching for a trio of banties outside, it was dusk. I then sadly resigned myself to the fact they were a foxs dinner somewhere or had roosted up in the trees. I magine my surprise when later than night popping upstairs only to find the three of them roosting on the banister of the upstairs landing! :D :D I must've left the back door open and they sort off wandered in...

As long as your hens know they are hens - I HATE with a vengeance anything like mini pigs in the house, or ducks and geese in nappies - if my chooks decide to have a wander into the house - I'm pleased - because it means that are at ease with me and trust me - and so should trust other people - like ----judges - and that is very important - :D

Hey! Nice to see I am not alone in my "chooks in the hoose" Can you please tell my hubby this as he thinks its very abnormal.... probably just jealous!
My pekins(Dottie and Lily) come in on a regular basis and for some reason plop right in front of the TV... my Marans(Speckle) is a bit more nervous, she sits on my window ledge on the inside an shouts every now and then to remind me she's there - but when there's food on the go she's more than happy. She's especially partial to my carrot and coriander soup, and my lovely gentle giant sussex(Rachel - named by my 6 year old... ) would spend her life on your knee if you let her .. just remember the towel so she doesn't poop on your legs
This is even when my 6 cats are in, neither bother with each other it's great I can have a chook on my knee and a cat at my side - honest!
And in the summer they all lay in the garden and sunbathed together....
Sadly my hamburg (Spangle) doesn't come in, she's happy to let you stroke her but she's a nervous little thing.
You're brave Dorinda letting your chooks on your bed.... don't you worry about them leaving you little reminders on your pillow..... :-)03

Most of ours like coming in too  especially one of our serama boys - he really makes himself at home!

mine like to come as far as the kitchen but don't hang around too long in case the dogs might chase them :D

i thought i was mad. iv a orpinton hen in the living room who quite often shares a bowl of cat food with my cats. shes 30 weeks but she was a sick girl who i was given so she could die comfy but that was over 2 weeks ago.
