I seem to spend most of the day checking and replenishing the water as the messy little madams are always kicking up a terrible mess and the water soon turns into a black yucky mess :-)06 any tips please :-)17

We raise our feeders and drinkers a bit on concrete blocks which helps a lot but doesn't stop it completely. They are very heavy though and I've made a wooden version to which I will add a lip around the edge as they then knock the feeder off and spill it. Our bantams are fine with it raised 4" -they are small enough to stand on the block next to the feeder, the large fowl stand on the floor and stretch up.

Raise them up to a height where they can just drink comfortably from them. Make sure it's stable and doesn't wobble about to get tipped over.

Thanks for your tips - we have raised them a bit so maybe we could try them a little bit higher

If your run has a strong wood-framed roof you could hang the drinker from one of the beams. I use a length of strong nylon cord attached to a roof beam one end and with a carabiner clip to hold the drinker where I want it above the ground. Gravity then keeps it level so the water can't spill. Have it at chest height on the smallest hen.
