We have a little chicken who, despite being the same age as all the other is significantly smaller than the rest and does not seem to be growing any bigger. She was lame but has battle on and is now fit, but still less than half the size of the other hens. The bigger chickens pick on her, pecking at her and jumping on her. The cockerels try to mate with her and squash her. We do isolate her at times to give her a rest. She will 'bite back' sometimes, she is often first to the food bowl etc. Do you think she is likely to grow as big as the others if she is so far behind in growth now? They are all 25 weeks old. We call her Gammy (previously Gammy Leg).

sounds like a runt :)
glad she made it, most tend to die early, i had a lavender pekin runt who made it to 10 weeks then died

I've got a little one too. We had her from 10 weeks, with her sister, and she was much smaller than her. Although she's grown and is now a year old she remains little and quite thin but happy and healthy and a good layer. She's bottom of the pecking order, but manages. It was her bigger sister that died, so the little ones can be fine even if they don't grow much.
