Hi,I am hatching some duck egg and some are for a friend and the will be moved to there brooder several miles away shortly after they come out of the incy.
Has any one got any advice on moving young chicks several miles like this.Obviously my biggest concern is them getting cold. The furthest I have ever move you chicks before is a couple of meters from the incy to the brooder.

Thanks Graham

If you have a small, ventilated cardboard box, layer with newspaper then a lining of shavings with a hot water bottle to keep them warm they should be fine for a short 15min journey. If you have a small group of ducklings they will huddle for warmth, obviously make sure they are all fluffed up dry and will probably be cheeping at you! :D
Good luck with your hatch! :-)17

Cardboard box. Insulate with paper and or hay. Years ago day old chicks were sent by train in special cardboard boxes lined with hay. They would not arrive until the next day and it was very rare for them to come to any harm.

Hi,thanks for the replies, may be I could use a card board box with a hot water bottle in the bottom, with some sacks over the top with some straw or shavings on top of that.

Thanks Graham.
