I've just found this site & am looking forward to picking up tips from all you experinced keepers.
I got my first chooks a year ago from an elderly lady who was giving up her chicken family. Sadly before she could organise it she had a visit from Mr Fox so I took over the 5 he left.
I bumbled along, knowing nothing & constantly worrying about them (are they too hot, too cold, what about the snow??) I gradually got more confident & learnt along the way, when sadly in June, I too had a visit from Mr Fox. He scaled a 6ft fence & took them all. I was devasted
Anyway, with a wire roof now covering the run I've got a new young family of 7, mostly hybrids with 1 Maran & 1 Campign (spelling!) I waste far too much time sitting watching them!! They are only family pets but hopefully they'll give us eggs too!
So I'm looking forward to talking to you all.
