Hi,
I recently had 2 bantams brooding chicken eggs but they started becoming aggresive with each other and I had to seperate them.
The chicks hatched out from both coops yesterday but I was wondering when I could place the bantam and chicks from the small coop back in with the other one and her chicks in the bigger coop (the small coop was a temporary emergency measure)?

Many thanks in advance,

Ben

They could become agressive again and chicks could get injured or killed. If there are not too many chicks, you could put both lots under one hen and take the other off broody. You would need to do it quickly before the chicks get too used to their mother and the mothers to the chicks.

Thanks for the advice Chuck, I thought that might be the case. My partner is going to take 1 of the hens and her chicks to theirs which will solve the problem :-)
Have 4 hatched with 1 bantam and 2 out of 4 with the other so it's been a good result and great fun to watch them running about now :D

Hui bullenboi If you have already tried them together and have had to seperate them then I think you will have to keep them apart until the chicks have fledged. You cannot normally 'creche' chicks, two families under one mother. I tried it twice this year and both times had to remove the added chicks as the mother hen was attacking them; and this was even though they were her own late hatched chicks, and they had already been under her all night! a chicken will bring up a mixed bunch of chicks duckling guinea fowl, whatever, but she needs to HATCH the eggs and see them all together on that first morning. Certain hens are an exception to this, notably silkies which do sometimes 'adopt' chicks, but with most breeds it's a lost cause. Sorry
