Hi can anyone help please.
I have six chickens and one of them is definitely under the weather,
She has a really messy smelly vent spends alot of time sitting, though she does stand for small periods, she is eating and drinking and looks well, she is definitely not right as she was very active. This is the first problem i've had she isnt being bullied and took command of the scratch feed i put down for them the other day. Any ideas/help will be gratefully received, there alot of info on the web, and not sure what to believe.

Hi Joey, have you checked for lice/mites? Also , have they been wormed? I would clean up the vent area- give it a wash with warm soapy water and dry it- then, check her for lice, worm her and separate her from thr rest if you can, make sure she is eating and drinking plenty- just give her layers pellets/meal and a little corn and see if she improves- if not then i would take her to the vet- she may need antibiotics.
regards, David :)

Hi David. Thanks for the swift reply, just checked her, she has yellow crawlies at base of feathers, are these mites or lice and what would you advise for treatment? She gone down hill swiftly overnight.

Hello, they are lice- you need to get some lice powder asap and powder her- make sure you get one that can be used on poultry and is not just for the coops/sheds etc- good luck and let us know how she goes- i would powder all your birds- they will all have them :(
regards, David :)
