Male quail lonely?

Hello
Today I inherited a male chinese painted quail :) I've never kept any kind of bird before although have loads of experience with other pets. He was part of a trio but unfortunately killed his wives! He has been on his own for a few months now and seems happy and healthy, although nowhere near tame - he's pretty skittish. He currently lives in a four foot long rabbit hutch but I hope to improve this soon.
A couple of questions. Firstly, I'd like to make his life a bit more interesting so can anyone let me know about things I can offer him to keep him occupied as I hate to see birds just pacing around? Secondly, I worry that he is lonely - should I get him some more lady friends and if so what can I do to minimise the chances of him picking on them?
Thanks for any advice :)

Welcome to the forum!
I'd put upturned pots in there and bits of conifer bushes so give him somewhere to hide :D

You would have to get a few girls for him so that his 'attentions' are spread out over them. Quail are a lot worse at pecking and chasing than chickens!
Intros will also be worse with quail than chickens - maybe add the girls in an old budgie cage and leave them in there to get used to each other for a week or so.

Thank you :)
Is it okay to keep different types of quail together if the accommodation is big enough?
