--- Ive just seen an ad on line -- for chicks from 2 days old for the 'perfect Easter present' -- poor little things. They will be cuddled and not get any sleep for a couple of days , then they will be left alone , ?cold?coccy etc etc. Then most will be boys any way. If someone wants chicks hatched of a particular breed for instance I will let them have them if I know they WANT them and know how to look after them .If anyone wants just 'chicks' I couldnt let them have any. GRRRRRRRRRR !   Ros

I can't understand someone wanting to buy chicks. Anyone new to chicken keeping should want to buy hens as they are easier to look after and will be laying eggs sooner rather than later. As you say alot will be boys which most people cannot keep anyway. Much better to buy a chocolate easter egg!

You tell em Ros - don't you be holding back now......... But I absolutely agree,, madness........ the RSPCA / SSPCA etc etc should intervene if they see ads like that......mebbe its worth a call to them to se if this is allowed without first being vetted ???
Hear Hear CtheB - choccy egg tastic!!
Happy Easter to all when it comes, we're off for a long weekend to our caravan xxxxxxx

Makes me mad too  mind you its just the same as buying a puppy, kitten, rabbit etc on a whim for their children or themselves & people not knowing how to look after them , not realising they do grow bigger, they do get ill, not knowing how to train them etc Too many unwanted/neglected pets of all types in the end.

We called in at a garden centre this weekend and they had about 7 chicks for sale (looked like Brahmas). One of them looked very poorly so my husband went straight up to the desk and told them it was unwell and to remove it, Went for a coffee and checked it had gone but I was very sad that they should be selling them like that. Hope the littleun made it but I fear it was dying. :(

I have recently been contacted by a garden centre very well known - now owned by TESCO ( who wanted some of my birds to sell) - I got the price that I wanted - but I couldn't go there - no follow up -people that could look after them weren't always there - not always enough water - or food etc - my mind was made up - and yet it could have been a brilliant source of income for me - but I do care about my cooks - above all -

I'm the same with ads for "micro pigs / mini pigs etc"
Even the words get my blood boiling.... GRRRRR!!
