About 3-4 weeks ago, one of our Light Sussex was caught. (during the day). She'd gone outside the run into a huge patch of nettles and I heard the squawking and threw a fork into the area, so the fox went away. "Lucky" ran into the undergrowth with a huge chunk bitten out of her back, so I thought that was it. Later that day she was walking round the garden, eating and scratching! I isolated her and applied antiseptic, till the wound healed over and she went back into the flock. (she can defend herself well enough) and now she has a big black hard scab, and seems fine. I'm just leaving it. Do you think she will be OK eventually? I'm hoping the scab will drop off in time.

Hi, if she is eating/drinking and behaving normally then she will be fine- as long as the wound is dry and not infected by the bite- i.e. no puss, smell or bleeding /redness then it should heal ok- she may or may not grow feathers over it- depending on how much tissue was removed but she can still lead a normal life- she was a very lucky girl :)
regards, David :)
