Just cleaned out the nesting boxes and refreshed the straw. Betty and Linden are in there both making ridiculously contented burbling noises.

The end box I decommissioned as Blaze has been roosting on that end and making a mess in it (to the right of the picture.) I didn't figure on it looking different. I've just got home from a very enjoyable, sunny beer garden afternoon to find that they have emptied all the nests all over the run for the first time ever. That's clever - now where are you going to lay an egg?!

Lovely to see them looking so happy Rick. Isn't Betty pretty - what is she?

She is a rather small (but surprisingly heavy) Cotswold Legbar Chickenfan. Lays half size eggs.
I'm not sure why Linden likes the nest boxes so much but he is quite often in there making like he is going to lay an egg! Maybe they are working on hatching a cockatrice

That's a lovely photo. Nice to see he has someone to cosy up to. I assume his days of being henpecked are mostly over.
The Count likes to check out the nest boxes to see if you have stolen his eggs, look most put out when he finds that you have.
