Well we have had a bit of hatching disaster over the last week or so. To cut a long story short, after our Ko Shamo hatched three little chicks and everything was going fine she abandoned them to be very badly attacked by one of the game birds nesting next door to her. The little sod who did it really mauled them, particularly aiming for the eyes and when I found them I thought they were dead as they were stone cold and not moving. They all amazingly were still alive, I put them on the radiator while I warmed up the brooder but sadly the little yellow chick in the photos (Tweety) was the only one who ended up surviving and has been living on it's own for the past week. It has healed up really well and is a very loud little thing (can hear it two rooms away) which spends the whole day talking to itself. Very friendly and very lovely though. It had been hit so hard that it had forced it's beak to cross which has now thankfully corrected itself.
Three days ago the remaining game hatched only one chick, but it was tiny, too small to put in with Tweety so it is still with mother. Today however our Leghorn hatched also only a single chick which we decided was big enough to risk taking as a friend for Tweety and happily they are getting along fine, even if the new one does think Tweety is it's mother and tries to get under it's tiny wings. Still got little Orp sitting on a fair few eggs so we will see what comes out of that. But so far three chicks from 21 eggs.
