My only laying hen has a poorly leg/foot, which she really doesn't want to use. She has scaly leg which she has ben treated for, but I think it is a little more than that, as she is now lifting it up when standing still. I did wonder if it was bumble foot - but I'm not really sure what that is. She seems fine other than her leg, so any suggestions please?

---Could be an infection/break in skin from the scaley leg? Bumble foot gives round, tender ,defined ,swelling under foot. Collection of fluid due often to cyst , trauma or a foreign body. Often gets a secondary infection. May need incising/removal of cyst wall, or to release pus etc. possibly antibiotics if infection spreading.Hope that helps! Ros

Ros has said it all - Is the hens foot swollen or very cold and red looking? try putting straw down for her in the run to stand on for a few days, will help "warm her feet" up. I have a sussex hen that stands on one foot with the other tucked up into her body getting it warm on a regular basis, she seems to have poor circulation as her feet get really cold especially in wet weather.
