tonight it is so hot that i have decided to take the risk and leave the big girls to sleep were they want its just to hot for them to be cooped up and nearly all of them were perched with wings wide open and panting still, it hit 34c here today and its going to be one muggy night but i have left the windows open to my room so if anything happens i am sure my dogs will wake me as my big dog jack will jump over me and try and get out the window but as i was saying to a friend i've just as much chacne of them attacking during the day to get in as much as during the night i will go to bed with my fingers crossed although in the past the i have accidently left birds out thinking they were all in bed and nothings ever happened .

Hope they're OK, Karlooben. How fox-proof is your enclosure?

all safe and secure this morning when i went out , i would say my run is very fox proof { not cause they have been out all night } but the fact that its been up 7 yrs i think now and i have never ever had one probelm .but the run the girls are in is the new roofed one and thats just as secure .
funny though as i went to bed about 20 mins after doing this post and a couple of foxes were over there screaming i was laying in bed thinking omg shall i go out there and put them in  but my dog barked though the window and i think that might of scared them of .

Glad they were OK. Sounds like a very useful dog. You should sell recordings of him

Lovely, Icemaiden. But how does a recording know when there is a fox about? LOL. I have started leaving some of mine out now too. They go into the middle of a dense bush and are completely hidden. I have taken one out of the only house that they are shut in at night. so there are only a cock a hen and two youngsters in there, and there is plenty of ventilation. It is really useful though to have covered or wired over pens. My chicken all prefer to sleep outside all year round. They only go inside to lay, which they also do all the year round.

the thing is my run is at least 50 metres away from the house maybe a bit more but it still worked , i kinda want to leave my girls to sleep were they please each night but knowing my luck i'll do it once to often and thats when i'll get the fox attack as a couple of them are getting really nasty towards bedtime .
