Which is best for bantams - layers pellets or mash?

I read somewhere that pellets are a bit big for bantie beaks. Don't know if that's nonsense or not but they never seem to scoff the pellets down like they hoover up corn.

Hope everyone's staying warm out there... :P

Hens will always go for mixed corn before layers pellets, but mixed corn should be given as a treat and really only a handful although in this weather will keep them toasty and warm at night. It makes the birds put on weight. If you find the pellets are a little big for your birds put them in a liquidiser for a second. I give my girls layers meal with warm water and a seperate feeder with layers pellets mixed with wheat and a little mixed corn in. They then choose what they want during the day.

It often depends what brand pellets you buy also. I find the organic ones I buy are much smaller than the non organic makes.

i give mash and pelletts missed in my bantys feeder and they tend to eat the pellets first then graddually finish the mash over the day.
and in this weather they get mixed corn in the afternoons
if i feed the corn in the mornings, they eat that first and chuck the pellet/mash mix over the floor, which can attract vermin
