Just a quick question. I understand that pellets and mash have the same nutritional value etc but which do you find the chooks tend to enjoy the best?

I've been looking online at the different brands and find that pellets and mash are the same price too but just wondered what to buy.

Thanks

I have layers pellets out for them all the time, but the hens love the layers mash. I find mash is alot easier to use in the wet weather. I fill large dog bowls up with the mash and put them around the pens for them and it is gone within a few minutes.

i only feed pellets but my hubby feeds a mixture of both, he has a lot more chickens on his bit of land than i do in my garden.(he says they eat the pellets first then eat the mash throughout the day )

I mainly use the pellets but when I feed them mash they seem to eat alot more of it and rake it out of the feeder all over the ground. I then take the feeder out of the run until they eat the stuff on the ground. :x Have got quite a bit of mash to use up so will be a long process! Years ago I used to use mash for mixing up boiled potato peelings etc and the chickens I had back then went mad over it! :D

I meant to add that i add warm water to the layers mash which ends up looking like porridge, the hens really enjoy it warm especially in the cold weather. They also love weetabix mixed with warm water also!.
