Is this possible?

we have had our 2 Call ducks (currently one duck) in this pond for nearly 2 years its almost a metre deep by a metre width and depth, we call it the swamp. gone through 2 pumps and nothing works, it smells now.

they just poo everywhere but i hose them down, they love the hose :)

Hi
I.m fairly new to ducks. I have 3 runner ducks and have to clean their pond out with a pond vac every 4 days. otherwise they stop going in it! We were thinking about trying some sort of pump but have not got electricity available. They love the clean pond so it seems we just have to keep cleaning it out!!

I have a 12,000 liter pond for 10 ducks. It has a hefty pump which filters all the water in 2 hours, and it goes through a large filter. I clean out and refill the entire pond and filter every 2-3 months. No other way with ducks! A good tool is the industrial water pumps you can drop in that remove sludge as well.

We have a similar system, and empty it out completely every few months. We tend to take the runners off in winter and they have their winter run where I use trugs on a hard standing area. Makes my life a little easier!

The one problem I have found with the portable pumps, (not the pond pumps) is to get one that is able to deal with grass, the sludge isn't problem as we use a large bore hose, it's the grass that clogs the commercial pump up. For a smaller pond though they are fine and empty our smaller 4 x 4 foot pond really quickly.

I had a huge pond for my 4 calls and it was a nightmare. The filter couldn't cope, the ate all the plants and I had to end up using a sump pump every month the totally drain and re fill it.
It drained it and filled it in. Now they have plastic ikea storage tubs. They don't look as nice but I can empty them every day. Unless you have a fresh supply of water, ie a natural stream, you'll be constantly fighting to keep a pond clean.

Just wandered how Efective Microorganizm would cope with that. They using them for waste cleaning so I think pond would not be a problem, but need to find a good advisor to which product to use and when.
