Hi all, Well I now know for defo that I have 2 hens,2cocks. Frankie&Benny are cocks and Goldie&Nugget are the hens.... Well I'm thinking of keeping Frankie (he's my fav). Obviously he will mate with the girls which leads to fertilised eggs BUT is this allowed?? will they be deformed eggs/chicks?? I know I'm thick?! I'm rather confused as always. lol  I'm a bit scared of being reported if he's too noisy and then me ending up having to get rid of the girls too, can this happen?? any advice welcome please peeps.....x
Thanks Natalie x ;)

Firstly, if you live in any kind of built up area with neighbours then chances are a cock bird crowing will annoy them and yes, they will complain. This may then lead to you having to rehome him or cull him. It is hard work finding cockerels decent homes at the best of times. Unless he is a good breeding bird and only wanted a a pet chances are you will have a wait on your hands to rehome him if he has to go.

If neighbours complain to the council it may turn out you are not supposed to keep chickens at all. So check in to this now to be on the safe side. Most people can keep hens in their back garden just fine and they don't tend to be noisy so neighbours don't mind either.

If you breed I'd always advise to make sure he is of a decent standard to breed from. Especially if you want to sell chicks from them. I never breed from my chooks if I consider them pet quality. You can breed brother back to sister as I understand it but I'd then not breed any further. I've never done so though. Only chooks from breeding pairs back to one parent or the other.
