Love those minimalist Zen gardens. As with calligraphy they seem to reflect the lightness and purity of their creators. Makes me want to make one here.

You have plenty of rocks

Well the hens are now on their holiday digs - an eglu cube - hope they have worked out how it works! It a bit of a sudden change but they have holidaying neighbour flocks both sides and free range hens and an big orp cock passing by to keep them entertained. It could be good as I feel the mismatch of a hybrid, black orp and bantam cock is a bit too much of a spread to feel like they are part of flock here at the moment. A bit too mixed and small maybe.
However, now they are safely off camping I have jet washed out the run, nest boxes, perches, ramps, tables, floor. Been wanting to do that for a long time.
Feel i have achieved the Zen in the art of chicken keeping - there are no chickens to mess it up! :) (keep hearing clucking though - awww - do hope they cope and come back OK to meet the next intake of hens.)

Hope the Zen filters through to the hens. Although if they have the slightest inkling that you have cleaned the coop, run etc out they will be hanging onto poop for dear life ready to bomb it the minute they get back in !!
We got lots of little jobs done on the coop and run today, nailing or screwing things up or down that had come loose and general repairs. The coops had all been scrubbed out Friday, like you Rick it was remove everything and really go to town. The girls were quite happy outside as they had discovered the windfall plums, great ammunition for a clean coop and perches

Must be anyway now then Rick. See it's 143 yen to the pound, which isn't that bad, I've been before with it hovering just over 120!.

Yes. Typing this at half 1 in the morning as we went to bed at 7 last night - must have taken nearly 24 hours from home to hotel. Everyone is very friendly and the yen are stretching out quite reasonably although there hasn't been much reason to buy stuff so far.
Going across Tokyo from Shinjuku to Ginza tomorrow to see some Kabuki theatre.

Glad you have got off on the right foot. Sure your well covered but if you find yourself stuck for food/drink, Torigin Honten in Ginza has good simple kamameshi (kettle cooked rice with toppings) and is close to Kabuki-Za, as is the slightly surreal Lion Beer Hall. Had to ask Mrs Dinosaw what the first place was called.

Only posting this because we got on the Shinkenzen (?) train to Kyoto after missing 3 (long que then train filled up then on wrong platform for next one, and repeat!) Everyone going home for holidays.
I popped into the smoking cubical for a fag and then the train stopped at next station - filled up sardine style. Seperated from Carol in the passageway and it looks like going to be stuck in here for a while. Going to be a shade of green when I get out!
Hopefully not to busy on the way back to Tokyo but have learned its good to reserve seats with a JR pass as they are only valid for half of the available trains.
Kabuki theatre was very , very good. Having a great time if I survive the next 2 hours!
