Right, after 9-10 days of solitary Grumpy became a pretty sad looking hen so each day for the past 4-5 days I have brought her indoors for a few hours in the afternoon and she potters around the house.
She still grumbles under her breath ALL the time but I guess that is just her, however...... the last 2 days she has been attacking my cats and my dog!! Luckily they are all very used to chickens so haven't retaliated, but she is making a run for my dog (he runs away he is scared of her) how can I put her back in with the others..... I am at a complete loss at what to do my second run is only temporary, my garden isn't big enuf to have 2 runs as it halves my girls foraging space.
She had a go at my dog tonight so I lifted her and was holding her (I was actually giving her a thorough telling off!) trying the top chook theory when my little cat came up for a stroke, next thing my cat scarpers and Grumpy has grey fur hanging from her beak, this is whilst I am holding her!!
Help! Next resort is to re-home and I really don't want that as we have gotten pretty close this past few weeks

A x

PS: Droopy is a living legend!! That girl is defying all odds, little Miss Wobbly legs is living the life with her friends and getting prettier and stronger by the day

Hi to stop her pull out feathers and fur from others you may buy a plastic beak bit to stop her get a strong grip so she will be unaple to pull anything. She can still eat normally,I have seen them in one of the chicken shop(just cant remeber which one).If anybody know them please help.

I'd have never have thought Grumpy could be worse than our Dandilion (who is now very happy with her lot and leaving the others alone -still grumbles loudly) but clearly she is. I am at a loss as you are, but it really boils down to Droopy being happy or Grumpy being grumpy somewhere else. What she needs is a full time Cockerel to knock her into place, but you wouldn't want one because they cause more problems than they solve.

Think the beak bits clip into the nose and they are a Commercial solution to overcrowding and boredom problems. She may damage herself trying to remove it.

Hope someone else can give some alternatives.

Cool will ping you a piccie as soon as I have one, would you like me to post you a couple of beaky things? I had to buy a pack of 10..... Not looking forward to it but needs must!!

Aileen ,try them for a bit and remove after 2 weeks.I had read on other forum that somtimes they get use to it and using them to bite deaper.just to make her stop.Good luck :-)17

Before trying them on..(the hen.,. :D ) warm them up first by popping in hot water for a while. They will be more flexible and therefore easier to insert.
