is this normal ?

I now have four chicks pipping, one of them has a hole a cm wide and I can see the chick's beak and it is breathing, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything else, the hole is on the top of the egg in the middle, is this normal and will the chick continue to break the shell and get itself out ?

Unfortunately the one I was talking about died, I think it was just too big for the egg, and really couldn't move about, but not to worry because....
Hooray!
At 1am the first chick arrived, a black one the children named Potter, when I woke at 7am there was a black and yellow one they have named Diggory and just now another one hatched, which shall remain nameless until the older children return from a trip to Pleasurewood Hills!!

When am I safe to move the two older ones to the brooder, they are as feisty as anything and keep squasing the new one ?

They all need to stay in the brooder for 24 hours to dry off and fluff up properly, and need no food or water during this time as they are still being nourished by the yolk sac. It's best to keep the incubator away from bright light as this will stimulate them to use energy unnecessarily in moving around, so pull the curtains and keep the light low so they can have a chance to rest after the exertions of hatching. If they hatched overnight, you could release them to the brooder tomorrow morning (Friday.) Are there any more possibly to come? are they on non-slip matting of some sort in the incubator, so their legs won't splay on a slippery surface?
Make sure the brooder is well up to the temperature of the incubator in advance, so they don't get chilled when you put them in there.

Thankyou for all of your help, we now have six fluffy bundles called Potter, Diggory, Granger, Weasley, Dobby and Malfoy.
And one little struggler, which we are hoping will pick up, named Hagrid !
