We unfortunately had to put one of our ex batts out of her misery this afternoon, we had initially thought she was simply suffering from egg binding and we could manage it in the same way as usual with a spot of vaseline and steaming but it soon became apparent that she was going downhill fast with very watery poos full of urates and egg yolk, very thirsty, not eating at all and getting worse each day. Her poos were watery enough that I carried out an autopsy just to be sure that it was peritonitis and to see whether she had an impacted gizzard. When we opened her up I thought you poor thing. As well as having a fatty heart, her gizzard wasn't full but only contained aubiose with no grit, there was egg yolk in her system, liver condition was poor and to top it all off we found what you see in the photos. A slightly crusty egg sized object that shouldn't have been there, when we cut it open, oh dear me.., just be grateful this site doesn't have smellovision, it absolutely stank. At first I wondered if it was a huge tumour but after a not much searching we found plenty of similar photos, it is in fact an internally layed egg. Imagine having that sitting in your stomach, no wonder she was so unwell. just posting this up for the sake of interest really as I have never come across it before.
