Being new to chucks, I'm amazed at their level of intelligence and puzzle solving skills.

I say that in comparison to my English Springer who is a special needs animal, but also concerning their ability to identify weak spots in my run fencing and escape.

It has taken two weeks to discover all of their little ways out - and one was spectacularly inventive.

I'm now keeping an eye out because I reckon they are just pretending to scratch while dropping dirt on the ground. As soon as a vaulting horse appears I'm sending the guards in!
 
They are a lot cleverer than people think , I have one who is definitely related to Steve McQueen .
 
Hmm ... caught one of mine on a motor bike close to the coop fence just yesterday ! I could swear she was gooing to try to jump it !

I shall try to improve security sarge ! :mrgreen:
 
It gets worse.

Last night I looked out to see my dog sitting in the middle of the enclosure with a sad and confused look on his face.

We have no idea how he got there and he's not giving up any information which isn't already on his collar.

I suspect it's the resistance.

He went under the wire. Tent pegs are going down tonight.

Meanwhile, one of the girls has worked out she can get on the bench - take a leap of faith onto the roof of the chuck house - and then it's a hop, skip and cluck to freedom over the raised fencing.

I'm almost at the point of giving up and letting them have the whole garden to destroy!
 
Ours are hum-bugs especially the ex-batts/barns - they're forever leading the others astray. Hubby has a biscuit tin in his shed & while they were exploring his shed the other week they accidentally knocked the tin to the floor & the lid popped off - they feasted on the few Hob Nobs & crumbs (luckily they didn't get the choccie ones, but then I'd already polished those off :mrgreen: ) & now the 1st thing they do when let out to free-range is go straight to the shed to try & raid hubby's biscuits again (he's got wise to them though & not only shuts the biscuit tin in a cupboard but duct tapes the lid just to be sure - he was amazed at how they could open the cupboard, take off the lid, help themselves to a few biscuits then replace the lid & shut the cupboard door & it never occured to him that the biscuit raiders weren't just the feathered variety ;) :oops: :lol: )

I used to blame the dog for everthing and now the chooks can cover anything I do wrong up at the Allotment ! My Cockrell is a rascal with attitude...... They would believe anything of him :evil: mwhahaha
 
they had to get the story of chicken run from some were lol.
iv a little dutch we used her to make sure chicken run escape proof and fox proof as if there the smallest way out she will find it. thinking of renting her out
