Hi there
I have recently bought two new hens and wonder how long I should keep the separate from the existing flock. The runs are side by side so they can see each other all day. I have had the new birds for 11 days now.
Hope you can help!!

Hi Caroline,
I normally keep mine seperate for 2 weeks, but able to see each other in seperate runs like you've done. After a fortnight I let them all mix,so far i've done this 2x and both times it has been a complete success with minimal pecking at each other when they meet.
I also ensure there are plenty of food and water containers so all can feed and drink with out the lower flock members having to wait until last.

You should be alright at 11 days to let them roam around together, one their 1st day out make sure you are around to keep an eye on them, a bit of pecking is quite normal, they are just establishing a new pecking order.
You can either then at night time put them back into their own runs or put them all into one.

Thanks ladies
Have followed your advice and apart from a bit of squabbling they seem fine
