Should imagine that all you keen bird people have seen this already but Hugh's Wild West (iPlayer), especially the dippers, owls and the roosting long tailed tits - Brilliant!
We remember seeing it and thoroughly enjoying it. Our pair of Tawny Owls were calling to each other this morning, and OH had two pairs calling pre dawn on one of her survey patches, and she was talking about grunting Woodcock, a sound I have yet to hear. Her other highlight along the route was 19 Song Thrush in full voice. Makes you feel spring is on the way
Ah, thats the thing with iPlayer - seems new but could be a repeat from way back (well worth a repeat though.)
Spring is definitely on the way but has quite a way to travel!
The Tawny Owls in the program were super cute. I don't think we have any grunting Woodcocks around here or very much really other than the standard river crew but I did see a Cormorant the other day sitting on a log and wondered what it was doing in the Midlands - same as the gulls I guess.
The best singing is from the Blackbird up on the TV aerial but they do really go for it! Then raise chicks in the ivy covered pear tree which explode out like pop corn later in the season and rarely escape the cats
