:-)08 I have HENS! Picked up 6 ex -batts late this afternoon and listened to them squabbling all the way home - put them straight in the coop (dark now) and after 5 mins of noise it all went quiet - peeked in to see 6 pairs of legs all snuggled up on their perch!!!!!! Get to see them properly 2moro and will take some photos......

Congratulations, that is good news...you are offically a chicken keeper! :-)08 :-)08

I know!!! My 8 yr old daughter is skipping around singing ' we have chickens' - It has been a challenge trying to build this coop and run in all this bad weather but my hubby managed it (just) - still got a couple of minor adjustmens but it's all livable!

Congratulations!
Your ex-batts managed to perch on their very first night then?
Let us know how they get on, please.
Cheers. :-)08

: :D :D D well done and welcome to the totally crazy world of chicken keeping but be warned you wil end up with more and not only ex batts  we all say we wont get anymore but we always do .

Congratulations,
Welcome to the wonderful world of hens, and their daft habits. They will all have different personas, you'll see. You will love them all.
Shall we make an "I love Warrens club"?

Hope your girl with the prolapse is OK, she should be, she's a Warren!!
I have never had that happen to a hen, but I gather it is not uncommon. Now is the chance to show your girls what you are made of, they are SO easy to handle, and end up being your total slave.
We have had family dinners in the garden with the hens out in the summer, cooked extra spaghetti, as they will kill for it, and then had hysterics, when one or more of them has ended up with spaghetti boots, such is their excitement.
All for the future - great fun.

Good you've taken photos as you hopefully won't recognise them when they've moulted out and grown new feathers. Don't be surprised if egg laying stops for a time after the move and that will be good for the one that has the prolapse. Use a weak salt solution. Anusol is a human preparation for haemorrhoids (piles). One of the problems with a prolapse is that the others become very interested, peck at it and cause it to bleed which leads to even more damage so if the prolapse doesn't go back, you may need to separate her.

i have just put a post about Henrietta and her prolapse - the other hens are bullying her anyway and i'm worried that keeping her out of the coop when they are all new to each other actually isolates her more? not sure what to do :-)19
