Mornin Yall, I was wondering what would be the best way to keep my girls hydrated in this god forsaken arizona heat? Any advise would be helpful.

Lol, I know water I have a 3.5 gallon plastic wateter for them I was just wondering if there is anything else I can give them or do for them to keep them hydrated and happy.

Shade is good too, to keep the sun off them. My girls used to have a patio table with a brewery umbrella! Nowadays they have to make do with just the table...

My girls are kept in a open chicken coop that has a roof two full walls on each side, back wall is a sheet of plywood on the bottom and chicken wire on top, the front has a two foot high piece of plywood to keep the little girls inIside. So they have lots of shade and ventalation.

A soil bath is good, especially if it is slightly damp Papa Chicken. Ours spend a lot of time digging down to damp soil under the trees and flapping around in it. Quite hot here as well, but I'm sure not as hot as Arizona! We also have some large electric house fans (shielded blades) which we have used on lowest speed to move the air around. We direct the fan slightly downwards and wet the soil in front of the fan so that the evaporation cools the air. They are a bit timid at first, but soon realise it is nice and cooling and sit in front of it.

Could you post a pic of that, Chris? It sounds a winner, would make a good greetings card!
Papa Chicken, what does the temp. get up to in Arizona - and what does it get down to in winter?

In summer the temp gets 100-120 during the day and 85-95 at night, winter it gets 75-85 during the day and 55-70 at night sometimes colder if we get rain.

Wow! So your winter temperatures are just about what we consider the tolerable maximum in summer in the U.K. I just don't know how you manage with those highs. Did you grow up in Arizona? I expect you do get acclimatised, but personally I think I must have been a frog in a previous incarnation, anything above 80F. makes me wilt and want a nice cool damp stone to crawl under.
You say 'if we get rain' - is drought an extra problem to cope with?

I actually grew up in California but moved to Arizona after high school with my family, we have been out here for over 20 years now. We usually only get rain during july-september thats the monsoon season and we usually get hit hard with alot of water and flood like we did a few days ago. I had to run out there and bring my girls inside the house for the night poor things were soaked to the bone.

It keeps saying that the pics can only be 700 pixels high and wide. I have no idea how to get them to that measurement. :-|

I haven't used Tapatalk for some time, and have forgotten my password, and can't seem to get back on with the replacement password they've sent me, so I can't have a go at helping you. What a crap app!
Did you find this thread, for use with a normal browser?
