hurrah! eggs at last!

my beautiful black copper Marans have laid their first eggs today!!

they hatched in the summer of 2010, our first successful attempt at incubation, and we had resigned ourselves to having to wait til Spring for eggs.

but there today were three lovely, tiny dark eggs! we have 2 bcms ... so now need to play detective to see who the third layer is from our assortment of pullets

Altho on the upside, it may sound daft but I have noticed they are actually using their perches rather than just crashing out and making a mess anywhere and everywhere in their coop, if I remember rightly my other girlies did that when they were getting close to laying....... so keep everything crossed I'm not far behind you!! 08 08 08

Congrats! There is nothing like getting those first eggs after a prolonged wait. Just got some new hens today and they have some growing up to do, so I will have to be pretty patient!
