Hello,
I've lately been given four adorable chickens as a birthday present. Amazing. I adore them. I'm feeding them layer pellets but I'm not quite sure how much to give them. Surfing the internet produced lots of different answers, probably as many as I got from my village neighbours.

Congratulations on becoming a chicken keeper ! What type/breed of hens are they ?

Hi Crechat39
How old are your chickens? If they are already laying then you are right to feed them a good quality layers pellets. I just top up my feeder until it's full and leave it out all day for ours. Once they've gone in for the night I put it in a rodent proof storage container. The chickens will eat just what they want and need so long as it is there for them.

Hi Crechat and welcome to the forum. Laying hens will eat 100 -150 grammes of layers pellets per day, depending on the breed. If they are under 18 weeks old they should still be on growers pellets at about 100g per day. Don't think you have much choice of feeds in Rural France though and your chicken keeping neighbours may know best. I'm taking half a ton of premium feed with us when we move in September!
