Hi folks, Wayne here from North Manchester, i have been looking for a forum like this as i am hoping to get some Quails for an aviary i am building, well nearly done. I will add a post to the correct section to ask a few questions i have on there housing and aviary companions.

I used to keep them many years ago but in a hutch, this is a bigger scale now and i need to know if they will be ok, i will be hoping to breed them aswell if all goes well. :D

Hi, Wayne, welcome to the forum, especially the Quail section. Like you I'm just starting out with quail and hoping to breed some next Spring, as are several other people on here, so I hope we can all pick each other's brains in the Quail section!

Thanks for the welcome.

From what i remeber they breed easy, when i last had them i was young and didnt know much, i had 4 from what i remeber and evey now and then i found eggs in the corner of the hutch, i didnt know what to do when they shown up, non hatched as i was a bit young and didnt know what to do.

What ever i did with looking after must of been right for them to breed, i had them in the house at that time.

They will lay fertile eggs all overthe place in their cage but it's quite rare for the hens to go broody and sit on the eggs satisfactorily. It does occasionally happen but mostly it's been bred out of coturnix through many generations in captivity, rather like hybrid egglaying hens. You'll need a little incubator if you wan tto hatch them.

Hi Wayne,
Welcome to the forum. I'm no expert on Quail, like you I kept them when I was young and it was more by luck than anything else that I had youngsters. I remember them being the size of a bumble bee and very sweet!

Look forward to seeing you in the forums,

Tim

Hi Wayne :-)99

Ive a trio of quail, 2nd time round for me too. Wasnt too keen on them the 1st time as they were really flighty, but bid on these eggs by accident at our local mart. my friend hatched them out for me & I love them - they are so tame.
