Amazing I just went to have a last look round, and gave the tap another test, as it has been thawing all day here, and guess what :D running water again. Doesn't it make you appreciate those things you just take for granted each day :D No more carrying buckets of water up the bank :D :D :D

with you on that one we had no water down the stables for nearly a week and the water tough in the feild wasnt filling up like it should so we nearly had major panick stations but thats all fine now but so glad i dont have to rely on my milkbottles to water the girls for now , theres no snow here now just rain coming in and they say on the weather reports thats meant to freeze :o oh what joy

Hi,

It certainly does make you appreciate what we take for granted!

Back in mid 90's, when I lived in greece, I remember my daily journey to get fresh water for my 4mth old sons bottles. I used to set off up the dirt track, with pram, up the through the olive and lemon groves, winding around the mountain to a spring. Fill up my coke bottles with the spring water, stacked up the pram and back down again. It took about 2 hours in total. Beautiful views, very hot, but my goodness did I yearn for clean running water!!!!

Thankfully I look back at those days with fondness.......and a little disbelief at all that we went through, anyone would think I am talking about the 50's.

PS Never did work out how my father-in-law kept his chickens watered. Remembering the rather delapidated coop, I dread to think about the "red mites" in those temperatures

ours re froze again down the stables :( and now the padlocks are freezing up but this morning there was meant to be a very sharp frost the whole lot but its almost perfect out there for us though this could be the calm before the storm as they say.

Hmmm - that didnt last long, it was tremendously cold yesterday with freezing fog, and again deeply cold today. So my running water didnt even last til the morning. Just going up to the barns for a last look round, and not looking forward to it either. Better get my coat and hat on

Hooray! running water from one tap at the stables, though our outside tap at home is still frozen

is it just me or does having running water at your stables suddenly make you very happy when everything defrosts  doesnt bother me anywhere else but at the yard

Hmmmmm - the water started running again today as everything started to thaw, unfortunately it started running through the plastic joints - nevermind I think the tap fitting has survived.

Oh well before long everything will be sorted (please God :) )

all the best

I agree

i did text the woman who runs the yard suggesting we get as many wheelie bins an dustbins an fill them up ready for the next freeze but i havent heard back hopfully she will say this afternoon that it will be a good idea as no one knows how long these freezes will last for .

Thats what they use at the yard Im at :) they still freeze though at least you can break the ice.

A useful bit of kitchen equipment to keep at the yard this time of the year is a sieve or colander - saves your fingers getting frozen when you are getting ice out of the buckets/bins etc

hav done that but i always end up breaking them  think what we will do this time is to just keep the tap running into the big blue butt and then just take out water from that to stop it overflowing , this woman at the yard hasnt said anything to me yet about filling up other containers .
