Good evening...just joined your forum and I am looking forward to learning more about Chooks! I currently own 4 very elderly hybrids and a very Bolshevik cockerel. Well he is a silkie cross that turned up one day. No one wanted in so we sort of adopted him. I think he is fairly old, and defo grumpy. Would love more, but think the stress of new birds might be too much for my old girls. Well, I can but dream :D :D Thanks for adding me. I will make a point of checking in often, thanks.

Hello Bev and welcome to the forum. We've had a few cockerels just dumped on us but managed to re-home most of them. When you add birds you need to increase space. This can be achieved by reducing the available run area and restoring it when the new birds are added. As you say, stress could become a big problem during the introduction process and best avoided I think.

Hi Bev, I'm new here too. Have 'acquired' 2 girls & 2 boys, raised from chicks but now looking for homes for at least one of the boys. We have a very small garden really only big enough for two plus a coop meant for two. The reason why we ended up with 4 is our landlord offered them all as chicks with the idea of us giving back 2 when they were old enough for us to choose them. Sadly as they have more cockerels than hens at the moment they can't take back the cockerels leaving us with the job of re-homing them.

Anywho, will post later some pics in the advertising section (they are 4.5 month old chocolate orpingtons called Miney & Mo). Wanted to pop by & say hi while I'm here ;)
