Just wanted to say what a great forum this is, it's been very helpful. Over the last 14 years I've had several different breeds of chickens, but now I've got 8 pekin bantams, all mixed colours and I'm really hooked on them. Even though we are in the middle of a freezing cold winter here, they are all laying like mad, prob because they are young birds and came into lay around Autumn. I see some of you guys use the same homeopathic remedies for worming as well. I've just started using one recently, they call it "Vermis 30C" over here. :)

Hi Jani,

Nice to hear from you and good to hear about the natural worming remedy - I have been really impressed with Verm-X one of the natural wormers we get.

Seems hard to imagine Winter now - it's been a good summer this year here so far - up to the low 30 degrees C and fairly dry.

You can indeed get eggs over the winter from good layers if they come into lay just before the winter. They will no moult in their first year of course. I usually buy a couple of commercial layers around August time and by November / December I have some reasonable sized eggs to keep me going over the shorter days.

Thanks for dropping by and hope we'll meet you in other areas of the forum.

Tim
