Hi. I'm from North Wales.
I am not at all from a farming background, except my dad passed his driving test on a tractor, and his cousins have a farm we visited as kids but otherwise I lived in a coastal town all my life.
I was married for 10 years and had two kids. We split up in 2008 and I met a wonderful guy on the internet. He lived 30 miles away on a small farm :)
We, the kids and I moved in in July 2009! At that time they kept Texel and badger faced sheep and a couple of horses.
I have always loved :pig: - although had never been near anything other than a piggy bank!
In October 2009 we got our first two sow weaners - large black x gos. I have never been so happy :D They have proved such a massive pleasure to keep :D We now also own a pedigree GOS boar (available for hire) and a pedigree saddleback sow. The original sows have had a litter each, as has the saddleback. The pork was amazing - there was no going back! Although we have downsized massively on the pigs by now! Just one of the original sows left, pigs are hard to keep :( Rehomed them somewhere that could keep them dry even in winter.
Also in October 2009 - we went up to the Highland Cattle society sale in Oban and came home with two heifers - one yearling and one in calf three year old. We got married in May 2011 bought ourselves a white two year old we had our eye on for a while for our wedding present to ourselves :D. Going up to Scotland for her was our honeymoon :) We now have 17 highlands :) including our own bull.
Ger's parents also live on the farm, so there are plenty of hands on deck now. Heather , Ger's mum has started keeping chickens since we moved here. I got involved too and bought more - they are lovely hens and the eggs are fantastic! :-) We have 20 odd now, welsummers, light sussex, barnevelder, rhode rock x, warrens and a Welsummer cockerel called Basil.

For Christmas 2010 Ger bought me a ewe lamb and a ewe Ryeland :-) They are soooo cute!! Now have 14 of them - love them.

Have also started keeping ducks, started with magpies - then Welsh harlequins, lost some to the fox at the start (during the day! Broad daylight! Grrr!) but now all happy in their big pen and pond.

Hi eleri, That's quite a menagerie you've got there! I love N Wales, stunning landscape and challenging as always seems to be the catch :)

HI eleri, and welcome fom me, too. I agree with Rick, you've certainly got plenty there to keep you busy. We are coming for a week at Beddgelert in June, we come to Wales most years, but I'm finding the mountains seem to get bigger and steeper every time. Maybe you live on one of the flatter parts towards Conwy, or inland a bit. The pointy bits seem to be mainly sheep, though that's a really hard life I should think.

Hi both. :)
We are near Llanrwst or Betws y Coed Marigold, it definitly isn't flat, but not so hard as some places. Hoever it is rough and all hills, so the highland cows are well suited :)
Beddgelert is lovely - the best ice cream going there :) It's about 20 miles from us (well about 30 mins)

I am soooo jealous! Makes me want to throw in the job, load the girls (and the rest of the family of course) in the car and head for the hills right now! :)

Croeso cynnes Eleri!

I lived half way between Pwllheli and Caernarfon for 22 years. I was brought up in a small village called Trefor, before moving south to be with my husband.
We have a caravan up there and my dad and nephews still live in the village so ALL school holidays I can be found there near the sea! (Hiraeth mawr de).
Thankfully I have a wonderful neighbour who takes care of my chucks while I soak up the sea air.
