Hiya i have just joined today and would love to meet some like minded people for conversations etc...around 6 years ago i bought 5 bantams at the persistence of my son. Since then we have bought a place with 2 and a half acres and now have quite a few chickens, ducks, cats, dog and not forgetting Steve the Bearded Dragon... I am now lost in my animal world but have decided to claw my way back out to see if I can make contact with others.

If you go to your Profile page, in your User Control Panel, there is an option for adding your location under your name on the right, under your avatar if you have one. You'll see I come from the opposite end of the country to you, in Hampshire. Then people will at least know where you are located. If you wanted to get in touch with other people nearby, you could try posting a thread about this. Probably the General chatter/Other Things section at the bottom of the Index page would be the best place. However, although I feel I know a lot of the people on here as friends, I haven't an idea where any of them live, except in a general sense. Sadly, a lot of us feel that, for reasons which you will understand from your second post about the security camera you needed to instal, we don't want to give away too much about our exact locations because of the possible risk involved in some circumstances.

Hi Lavinia and welcome to the forum. Privacy is a good thing in these circumstances as there are some wierdos on the internet and you can never be too sure. Your exact location makes you a target for theft and poultry keepers have, until recently, been a bit of a 'secret society', probably for that reason.

If we were stopping we'd have CCTV. As it is we have to move everything we can out of the Orchard into secure storage when we go because if not the neighbours will steal it. Worryingly I have to leave two good coops behind -one is a mobile (but I'm taking the wheels off). Fortunately the insurance will cover them.
