Hi, I let my four hens out this morning and noticed that Henny Penny seems to have broken the top of her beak; I watched her for a while but she doesn't appear to be eating or drinking. What should I do?

Hi Chrissiem - How is your Henny Penny getting on. I have never known this to happen, though I do know that commercial flocks often de-beak their birds, so hopefully it will not be too much of a problem

All the best

Hi
A few of my ex batts have broken beaks, they eat with no problems.
Hope your hen is alright

Yes, Ex-Bats often have the point of the the beak trimmed at the top - 'De-beaking' as it is called is done when they are young to stop feather pecking. There are organisations like compassion in world farming trying to stop this.

It is difficult to say how she will get on - if it is the tip, she should still be able to eat.

Any update yet?
