Hello again everyone
My cream legbar (approx 30 weeks old) started laying 3 weeks ago, laid maybe 6 or 7 eggs in about 12 days, but hasn't laid an egg since at least last Saturday (so a week now). Is that normal? Do some hens stop laying over winter even if they aren't moulting?
She seems fine, eating, drinking...but she is sitting down quite a lot more than before. I've picked her up and had a look at her, and can't see anything obviously wrong. Today I think she might be doing slightly runnier droppings than before.
Any advice would be gratefully received - this is as bad as having kids!!
Thank you
ps she isn't moulting & has been wormed!

My hens all take a 1-6 week break at some point every year regardless of whether they moult or not. Most do it in winter, although I suspect that I may have two breaks this year as they had one after a hen died of old age in the coop earlier this year. I found her while she was still warm, but I think it affected the other girls pretty badly as they all went off lay for 4 weeks. The break period length depends on the breed, individual and time of year from what I can tell.

Do keep in mind that young hens can lay a bit erratically when they first start.
