Hi.. My friend has just called me frantic :o one of her chickens are lying on the floor half dead with liquid coming out of it mouth.. I have never heard of this before i think it sounds like it has been poisoned!! What do you think??????????? My freind is really upset please help :?

If it is poison there are only two types I can think might get into a chook without it being a plant. Rat/mouse or slug. Either of these will potentialy be fatal. A quiet box with water and a lot of hope .... :-)06

However .. have you checked the crop ? It could be impacted .. that can cause liquid to ooze from the mouth and listlessness... Good luck to you and your friend. Keep us posted

Well i had a phone call this morning. chicken has died, i told her to take it to vets so they can do test on her to see how she died.. but she said she cant afford it.
Thing is if it spreads she could loose whole flock!!! I dont think people understand how important it is to get there chickens checked if they are poorly!! I couldnt leave one of mine poorly i have had to give all 20 of mine anibiotics.
people shouldnt have chickens if they are not going to keep them healthy xx

True that... but not wanting to pick an argument... there's a strong argument why not to give anti bios. But lets not go into it.

Cleanliness, quarantine, tonics and attentiveness is all I use. If I loose a chook I will do an ortopsy at need and if a chook looks like it's suffering too much I kill it.

I stand with your friend when it comes to vet bills and chooks also. :|

I lost a 9 week old silkie a couple of weeks ago. A flock of over 30 and over 2 days I could not find which one had blood in it's stool. On the third I found it dead. I will not be giving anything to the others other than thier growers pellets, corn and a little tonic in the water. They live thrive and survive still :-)17

Thank you chuckchuck . I hope the rest of your friends flock is as lucky. You are so right on many points. Your friend has a caring ally in you :-)17 :-)08
