HI Everyone,

I would like to have some chicks again this year.

I have cream legbars which are fantastic as I love the colour of the eggs and that fact they are autosexing. I prefer to sort out the problem of the cockerels very early on as i find it really hard when they are fully grown as have had to do in the pasted. I have rehomed a few but most we had to dispose of.

As well as my blue eggs I would like to continue to have some standard brown eggs as well which I have had in the recent pasted with my old ex comercial free range girls (Mr fox has taken them :( ) As I sell some of my eggs to freinds and family and they have liked the mixture in the pasted.

Could anyone suggest what breeds or crosses I could use this would give me a brown laying autosexing chicks and where I could get hold fertilised eggs (I live in Gloucestershire)

Thanks so much,

I look forward to hearing from everyone soon,

Greenhen

only way to get brown sex link laying hens is to make them yourself

so you cross a red rooster with a silver/white hen

or you can cross a red rooster (RIR or new hampshire) with a barred hen

Making you red or black sex links

how many are you thinking of getting? you can buy sexed day old chicks for about £1.50 each. works out much cheaper than buying the eggs and hatching them only to find out you need to kill the 50% which are male!

Thanks so much for the hepl.

Are there any pure breeds that are auto sexing that lay brown/buff coloured egg?

Thanks for teh help.
