Well, my chicken is still alive and recouperating well but the problem has escalated. I have four chickens altogether and two of them have become really dominant and quite aggressive. They have pecked the other chicken's vent now so now I have two injured with bare behinds and two strutting around like they own the place. I rescued them from free range farm so they were used to very large fields but they have quite a large area to roam in when they are in their enclosure - maybe 4mx6m with a coop and shelter, but whenever they are in there they seem to get aggressive with eachother. They seem better when they have complete free range of the garden but this isn't always practical bacause of dog and children. They seem very stressed and the egg production has gone right down from three a day to one (laid by the most aggressive one). I realise that they esatblish a pecking order but we've had them a good few months now and I think they would kill the other two if I enclosed them in their pen again. I've hung cabbage and peck blocks in their area to try and allieviate boredom but I don't know what else to do. Have tried the anti peck but that doesn't seem to stop them for long and I'm worried about putting it on the ones with no feathers on their behind in case it irritates their skin. Any advice???? I'm beginning to think this keeping chcikens idea wasn't such a great one!
