Hi guys,

I need your help. Henrietta, the chicken I posted about with the big feather loss has what looks like a protusion from her vent. A week ago she laid an egg twice the normal size, it was massive. In herself she is eating well, very active, like everything's normal. Sorry for the grim photo, but I'm panicking and we've never had any poorly chickens before.

Any thoughts?

Hi Sezimodo

It's a bit of a close up but yes it looks like a prolapse probably caused by the strain of laying the monster egg. You need to keep her away from the other hens while she is like this or you run the risk of them pecking the prolapse and she will bleed to death. Put some vaseline on your finger and gently push the prolapse back inside and cross your fingers that it doesn't come back out the next time she lays which is often the case.
