Hello everyone,
my eggs were due to hatch tomorrow but have just come home to find the decorator has knocked the plug a bit out of the socket and my eggs are cold! I think they have been like that for at least 7 hours. I take it they will all be dead now....
D

All is not lost-get it straight back on.Don't open amazing how often a cold dead egg will hatch. Don't be tempted to candle as they will be still if hypothermic.Allow an extra day and cross your fingers. It happens to all of us sometime!Good luck.Ros

Thanks Ros,

I do hope they will be alright. felt very sad for them , and me!
Fingers crossed ..

Its awful but all you can do is wait. I ve had stone cold eggs hatch when I thought they had no chance at all.Its amazing how newly hatched chicks rejected by broody appearing totally dead can survive if warmed up slowly. Let us know how they do .Ros

Will keep fingers crossed - what an awful shock it must have been. Don't give up hope.

hi. the same thing happened to me last year. mine was off for at least 10 hours and the eggs were all stone cold.I put it back on straight away but I thought all was lost. after asking on here I left them and sure enough most of them hatched. the closer they are to there hatch date the more likely they are to recover from the cold. it amazed me so please don't give up hope and good luck with them.

Good news!
I can hear cheeping! Its amazing they can survive being so cold for hours. Will keep you all posted. :D

Yippee!!!!! My fingers are so stiff from being crossed so tightly for 24 hours.Keep updates coming! Ros

That's brilliant Dominique,I accidently knocked the plug to one of my incy's with my vacuum cleaner.Didn't realise and 6 hrs later when I did notice, mine were all stone cold.
Mine haven't hatched yet :( ,and, don't think they will now as they are well over.

Aw I'm really sorry about that Lydia - isn't it horrible to find them all cold? How many days over are you?

Luckily I came home tonight after being out (very) late to find two chicks, and three more pipping, so hopefully yours will make it too.

PS Mine were a day late too
D

So pleased you've had some hatch and more pipping, that's really good :D .
Mine were supposed to hatch last mon/tues,no sign of anything happening :( ,i'll give them until tomorrow evening then ditch them.
When I check them, they still feel cold/cooler to the touch than eggs i've since added and are pipping.I'm really annoyed that I knocked the plug, the incubator went off and I didn't notice. If the plug had fallen completely out, maybe I would have, but it was slightly dislodged, just enough to stop the electricity flowing.
I'm a bit of a disaster with eggs, dropping them and cracking them :o ,knocking incubator, dislodging plug etc.It truly is a miracle that I actually do hatch some healthy chicks  .

So pleased you are getting your Chicks Dominique. Sorry about yours Lydia, we all get so fussed about humidity / turning etc then things like that happen-happened to me last time just have to hope all goes well next time. Ros

Thanks ,
am really amazed I got chicks at all- the number is now 7 out of nine - my best results ever! Maybe I should cool them down more often!
I will post pics once the last two dry out.
About dropping them lydia, I did with one, and put tape over it - and its just hatched! Remarkable.

Other's I've dropped I've used clear nail varnish,i'll try tape next time, thanks for the tip Dominique. These 2 were,er,smashed past having anything done.If I'd taped them,I don't think the chicks would have got through the tape......they wouldn't have got oxygen either......
Looking forward to seeing your pics, can't wait :D .

Hi,
Lydia - i took the tape off when I heard peeping, just in case it tried to get out that way!
Have just posted a pic of 5 of them.
Dominic
