Hello from Yorkshire

Hi barnvelders.net and welcome to the forum. I bet your Barnvelders look amazing in the sunlight, they're such beautiful birds. Can you post any photos of them?
Congratulations on managing to get yourself an avatar right away on your first post - most people find this is quite difficult, me included.

Hi and welcome to the forum barnvelders.net...looking forward to hearing more about this lovely breed! :-)99 :-)99

They are beautiful in the sunshine. Hopefully we will be seeing a bit more of them as we have raised about 70 pullets this year and regularly post hatching eggs.

This is Talos , on of our cockerels, 24 inches tall, nearly a stone and a half and like a big teddy bear.

I first started with a hybrid called ' Amber star' and they were fabulous layers, an average of 343 eggs in their first year but i got distressed with the manic way they had to eat to produce eggs at that rate and they problems with their joints etc and that they are all layed out within 18 months. The eggs were huge, watery and had very thin shells even with extra grit etc.

I decided to go for a classic breed that was dual purpose, the barny has the bonus of having a very spread out laying season and being good in the cold. The eggs are fantastic with really solid shells and they birds are happy and relaxed and produce well for years. Since then i have become a bit of a nut about keeping livestock in a non intensive and free range manner.

Welcome :-)99 Your birds looks so happy and well locked after.I know now to who call if I have more space :D
