Hi there

I've been looking round the site for a wee while now and decided, yes , this is the place for me. :-)17

I work on a farm on the east coast of Scotland where in the past we have had pigs and dairy cattle but unfortunately both are gone now so we are just cereals potatoes veg and soft fruit.

Just starting out on the poultry route with 8 eggs in the incubator and the 'accommodation block' half finished. A friend is moving to Australia so i will be inheriting 4 hens at that point too.

Hope to glean information from you guys in the weeks and months to come.

Hi DunK, and welcome. We'll be interested to hear more about your journey into poultry keeping in the next few exciting months. When are the eggs due to hatch, and what've you got in there?

Hi Marigold. Working on the 21 day time frame they'll be appearing on the 29th. Nothing exciting in the incubator really, just goldline hybrids and not too sure of the breed of hens i'm acquiring either. Depending how many cockerels i get with this hatch i might try and get a different variety for the next batch but i'm looking for about 8 hens total so i might not need to hatch more eggs. Have just found a source for khaki campbell ducks so a few of those might be introduced at some point down the line.

It's just as interesting whatever you're hatching, isn't it, and goldlines will give you lots of 'proper' eggs. And it's good to have something living to look after, now the farm is all arable.
