Hello Navyd and welcome to the forum. That's a bold step moving from a desk job to a poultry yard. I'm sure everyone will try to help you as much as possible. For myself I have no experience of commercial egg production, but I do know that before you start producing eggs you must have a market for them. We sell most of ours to the tourists who pass by on the canal and the rest to locals. Works out well with Pedigree hens as they tend only to lay during the tourist season, otherwise we would have a massive surplus over Winter. We do get rather a lot in Spring, before Easter when the tourists start to arrive, but so far we've managed to sell them, usually to my plumbing customers. Good luck with your venture, if you decide to go ahead.

Hi,a very warm welcome
I'm also on a small scale poultry keeper so cant really give you to much of the input.Maybe you should try to keep few hens first as a hobby(before you give up your job) to have some sort of idea how you should care for the hens and if it's really give you that much of a plesure that you could spend all time for them.I wish you good luck if you go big anyway :-)08 :-)17 :D

Hi Navyd, how lovely to have another overseas member. It's very interesting for most of us in the UK to find out how other people keep their chickens in different climates, and you'll certainly have our support from afar. What's it like where you live in Pakistan?
I think Tygrsek's advice about starting small is very useful. We all remember what a steep learning curve it is when you first get hens, we all made mistakes at first, so getting to grips with the basics on a few hens would seem a good way to start, if your livelihood didn't depend on it. Would you be wanting to hatch your own, or is there a source of supply locally if you want to use egglaying hybrids? Also I've heard that it can be difficult locating suitable food in some countries for hybrid hens bred to Western standards of heavy egg production, if that's the sort of birds you're looking for. Something else to sort out as well as what Chris says about finding local outlets for your eggs or birds.

anyway, do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

Hi Navyd,

Welcome to the forum, I hope the forum is useful to you.

Good luck with your new new venture!

Tim
