hello,
i'm kat i live near to darlington in a tiny village, this is my second go at keeping hens. the first lot had to be rehomed as we only had a tiny yard and it wasn't fair to keep them in small run all the time. But recently i had a bit of luck and have inherited a large garden or small field behind my yard. So i have got some more hens that i'm hoping to let free range, as soon as they get some sense.
i have
1 x leghorn she is very pretty with a lovely combe and very nice eggs currently double yokers
1 x amber which is cream with brown spots very friendly like a cuddle with me and jumps up like a dog.
1 x rhode island red quite young and mad.
1 x bovan goldline, who ran away with next doors cockerels for three days
1 x rumpless columbine, kinda crazy looking
1x columbain blacktail, she doesn't enjoy being picked up and tell the world all about it.
i will probably get another couple of ambers in the spring. my husband has commented that i'll continue to collect them up until there living like battery hens lol. fortunatly they have a fairly large stone/very old chicken house in the garden so ill have space for quite a few.
so that's me i ramble on a bit.
