Hi I am new to the group.
I love birds and always have had them around since I was able to own my own home and have outside aviaries.
I have been breeding Ringneck Parrots for a few years now and have had Button Quail running with them.
My quail have always laid eggs, but if they hatch, it is rare that the chicks to survive.
I have brought an incubator and intend trying my hand at hatching the eggs and raising the chicks myself.
So I will be back many times no doubt for advice.
Anyway nice to meet you all.

Hi Mrs Nuts, and welcome from me, too. It's great to have another international member as most of us live in the UK, though we do have members from all over the world.
I'll be interested in your quail-rearing experiments as I've done a couple of successful batches using an incubator and brooder. The main thing seems to be keeping the humidity really low - if the ambient humidity where you live is around 40-45% there's no need to add any water to the inci un til the eggs are ready to pip at 16 days in. Too high humidity can easily drown the embryos in shell.

Welcome MrsNuts. A lot of folk from this part of the world (Shetland) went to NZ. Guess the cool climate appealed.
There used to be a guy on a nearby island (Bressay) who bred quail but after a gale blew his aviary down quail were turning up all over the place.

Hello MrsNuts, lovely name, wish I had thought of it first, welcome to the forum. I have been posting on and off for years, and my Silkie has hatched, 3.5 weeks ago 8 babies of which 3 are boys, and is a wonderful mother all are lovely little hybrids, beautiful Silkie mother, and father is a lemon cuckoo Pekin, no inbetween crosses.

Silkies are great sitters and mums, if I had problems having seen Lottie through her sitting, I would get one rather than rely on an incubator.

They are lovely hens gentle and friendly and dedicated.
