Hello everybody hope all is well

I'm Logis from Malaysia, whom initially got very interested in keeping ducks (Cayuga) as pet but now considering Chinese Swan geese instead.
Gained a lot of information in poultrykeeper.com and I'm taking this opportunity to extend my thanks to everybody.

Based on my research I've learnt that geese don't need pond as much as ducks do and moreover I live in a city area with not much space to spare.
They'd also be excellent in guarding my home from intruders hopefully they don't get my neighbors annoyed :-)02

I'm currently checking with a farm in the US for the pricing of certificates including freight charges for the shipment, and if all went well we'd be seeing a pair of goslings few days after the 8th April (According to their hatching dates table) :D

Have a good weekend all..

Hi Logis. Great to have another overseas member on the Forum, welcome. Your plans for the geese sound really interesting and we shall enjoy hearing how you get on with the goslings.

Hello Logis,

Welcome to the forum and sorry for the delay in activating your account... I activate accounts daily, but I do have to check each one and accounts registered from India / Pakistan / China / Malaysia and the Philippines are often people trying to post spam or links in my past experience.

I look at the user name and if it's poultry related, it's usually a legitimate person but your user name made me leave your account de-activated... until you contacted me and then I realised you were genuine. It is I'm pleased to say, the first time I got it wrong! My apologies.

We call the Chinese Swan Goose the Chinese Goose here but it's true to say they did not descend from the Greylag geese as almost all of the others but descended from the Swan Goose.

The Chinese is very noisy - THE noisiest in fact and will certainly alert you to burglars!

Do let us know how you get on and don't forget our waterfowl section of this forum which has some very knowledgeable waterfowl enthusiasts visiting.

The forum is made special by the amazing people that visit and post (I don't get much time to post with the running of it) and I'm sure you'll enjoy your time here.

Welcome to the forum :D Do you keep chickens at the moment and thinkig of expanding with geese or is the gees will be your first birds?
Looking forward to any pictures if you have some :D

Hi Marigold, Thank you for the warm welcome and yes I myself can't wait to receive my goslings. Since it's the weekend, I am yet to receive any response from the US Farm on the overall freight charges involved (I think they only work on their emails during the weekdays).

Hi Tim, No worries I'm aware that my username seem weird :) I could definitely come up with some poultry related username but that would only add another another line to my "Usernames to Remember List" :P This username was created back in the 90s during the world of mIRC (Chat program) and I've been using it ever since. But hey look at the bright side I'm in now thanks to you!
Yes their noisiness is the core reason I switched from ducks to geese to alert me on intruders but sadly they can't see in the dark. Planning to leave my car porch lights turned on during the night to overcome that. I did however heard that lights won't be as helpful as daylight. This needs to be experimented upon their arrival.

Hey tygrysek75, hope you are doing well. No I've never had any birds as pets however, I've helped my aunt in her farm raising chickens but that was more than 15 years ago. I spent my time running from them more than spending quality time raising them though. They just love chasing me.. At the moment I am busy hunting goslings nearby my home over the internet whilst trying to build a pen at my porch preparing their arrival. I'll definitely get some pictures uploaded once I have them at hand :)

Hello All,

I waited for a reply on the Chinese White Geese from the US but no news, hence I bought the African Chinese Geese locally and they are next to me as I'm typing now. It seems they are both almost a week old and too busy drinking at the moment (long drive from where I bought them). Wifey is not to happy I set them up in my room at the moment, I just feel they are too young to be placed outside my house.
I did ask for a day or two old geese but the shopkeeper claims he don't want to take chances purchasing geese of those ages due to risks of dying in the process of getting them moved to his shop after few days. I believe he's got a valid point.
Pictures? Stay tuned folks as I get them introduced to my terrier breed dog (Maggie) later in the morning hoping she will start her parenting responsibilities and don't end up eating my new pet in the process :-)05

Welcome to the forum NitroX. Sure they put your terrier in place.

I'm looking at guard birds at the moment. Thought about Guinea Fowl.
